SG: Studied Timeline to Integrate YSMQCO into GSO    23-7-2008


Saud Al-Askar, Secretary General (Acting) of Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization (GSO), stated that within the next several months there will be completed and implemented a plan, which main purpose is to gradually integrate Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMQCO) into GSO membership after the plan's approval by GSO Board.

The next planned step will be related to the implementation of GCC Ministerial Council resolution. Al-Askar mentioned that the main purpose of his recent visit to Yemen was to familiarize himself with YSMQCO's potentialities and their commitment to complete the procedures for gradual accession. Meanwhile, accession is a matter of time in accordance with the capabilities and readiness of YSMQCO. GSO Secretary General added that YMSQCO are currently witnessing a marked development in its activities and performance level, which will help its gradual accession to GSO according to the scheduled plan to be agreed in the coming period. During the visit to Yemen GSO delegation met with Deputy Premier of Economic Affairs, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Director General of YSMQCO. Brief presentation of GCC policies in various standardization fields was provided to the meeting participants. Presentation included GCC steps toward the common market, intra-trade exchanges, and world market access by GCC industries. The Yemeni government officials lauded the policies aiming at development of the quality infrastructure in GCC countries, to which Yemen is aspiring as well.
